Craig Fleming - Presidentcraig

After ten years with another company in Alabama’s asphalt paving industry (where he held positions of increasing responsibility), Craig joined Dunn Construction as Vice President and Area Manager in 1994. 

From 1996 to 2001, Craig served as President of Dunn Roadbuilders in Laurel, MS. He returned to Birmingham in 2001, and was named President of Dunn Construction in 2002. 

Craig is an active advocate for the roadbuilding industry. His professional activities include: Past president of the Mississippi Asphalt Pavement Association. President and current board member of the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association. A member of the UAB Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Industry Advisory Board. Past member of the Associated Builders and Contractors General/Subcontractor Advisory Board. Vice President and Board Member of the Alabama Road Builders Association. 

Craig is also a supporter of a number of community initiatives, including: Board member of the Birmingham CRT (Coalition for Regional Transportation). Member of the Leadership Birmingham Class of 2011. Member of the Downtown Birmingham Kiwanis Club. 

Craig was born October 18, 1958 in Franklin, Ky. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. 

In 2012, Craig and his wife Sherrie celebrated their 30 wedding anniversary. They have four children, Julie (married to Matt Cate), Brooke, Virginia, and Andrew. They are members of Homewood Church of Christ.                                                                                                                                                                      

 

harryHarry Thomas - VP of Operations

Harry manages all of Dunn’s construction operations, including asphalt plants, paving crews, base crews, excavating and milling. He coordinates operations with project managers in preparing bids and completing projects on schedule. He works with Accounting to manage our costs, and with Safety to promote a better workplace for all employees.

Harry joined Dunn in 2001, after two years as vice president of the asphalt operations for Blythe construction in Charlotte North Carolina—where he was responsible for five asphalt plants and approximately 140 employees. In 1999 and 2000, Harry worked in Morrisville, North Carolina for Hanson Aggregates East—where he served as manager of operations support.

From 1973 until 1999, Harry worked for Sloan construction company, a 700-employee asphalt paving company based in Greenville, SC. Originally a field office clerk, his final 2 years with Sloan were as President of the company. Prior to that, he was the company’s VP and Division Manager.

Harry earned his BA degree in economics from Clemson.

 

evansEvans Dunn - Private Work Manager

Evans joined Dunn Construction as a Project Manager / Estimator in 2004. His responsibilities included: Estimating and managing jobs in the private sector. Building relationships with developers, general contractors and municipalities. And generating Cost To Complete analyses for projects.

In 2009, Evans was promoted to Private Work Manager. Today, he is responsible for all of Dunn’s commercial work in Alabama—and for procuring work from area developers, general contractors and engineers.

Evans is a 1991 graduate of the University of Alabama—where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. In 1992, Evans joined Royal Cup Coffee—serving the company in a variety of sales and marketing-related positions (from Route Sales to National Account Manager) before joining Dunn in 2004.

An active member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Evans has served both as a Deacon and on numerous church committees. He is a board member of Birmingham United Soccer Association, and has coached several soccer teams over the years. Evans and his wife Katie have three daughters: Kathleen, Alexandra and Anne-Marie. All three girls play soccer; two for travel teams. 

 

toddTodd Ketner - Public Work Manager

Todd joined Dunn in 2004 as a Project Manager / Estimator on various projects. In 2007, he was promoted to Public Work Manager. Today, he oversees complex projects for the Alabama Department of Transportation—as well as for various airport authorities, among others. It’s a role perfectly suited to his detail-oriented personality and analytical nature.

Todd’s highway construction experience dates back to 1996—and includes construction materials sales, estimating and project management. Todd serves on the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) Liaison Committee, and is member of the Alabama Road Builders Association (ARBA).

Todd earned his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering at Georgia Tech—where he concentrated on transportation design and construction management.

Todd and his wife Kristi have one child, and live in Hoover. He is an active member of Valleydale Baptist Church, where he serves as a Deacon. In his spare time, he enjoys bird hunting and spending time with family.

 

IMG 0663Michael Estell - Project Manager

Michael has served Dunn Construction in his current job since joining the company in 2003. He is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for jobs the company is bidding—and for managing the work, and accurately tracking costs, for his ongoing construction projects.

Michael’s primary responsibilities are in operations, and include scheduling, tracking costs, job billings and projections—as well as assisting in day-to-day management of both public and private work.

Michael joined Dunn after working from 1988 until 2003 at APAC-Alabama, Inc.—where he held several different positions, including Estimator and Project Manager, Asphalt Sales Representative, Birmingport Asphalt Terminal Manager, Material Testing Technician, Instrument Man for Base & Asphalt Crew Operation, and Payroll Clerk/Accounting Assistant.

Michael attended Valdosta State Community College in Valdosta, Georgia.

 

davidDavid C. Rice - Project Manager

David Rice joined Dunn Construction in 1999 as an Estimator/Project Manager. From 1999 to 2010, he estimated and managed projects in South Jefferson County and North Shelby County.

In 2010, David moved into a more dedicated Project Management position—where he plays a central role in maintaining consistently positive working relationships between Dunn Construction’s employees and management with the project owners we serve. David’s strengths include an ability to handle multiple projects, and a drive for ensuring that our projects are counted as successes by everyone involved.

David graduated from the University of Alabama in 1985, with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology. He worked as a civil engineer from just after his graduation until 1999. During that time, David designed roads and parking lots; experience which has given him an in-depth insight into the construction aspect of road-building.

David grew up working in the construction industry for his father, who taught him—among other lessons—the importance of controlling costs while still meeting project owners’ expectations.

David and his wife, Kenna, live in Jefferson County. They enjoy spending time with family—especially their two daughters, their sons-in-law, and their granddaughter Tayler. David’s hobbies include gardening, bird hunting and traveling.
